The Geography of Time

Munayem Mayenin's latest collection The Geography of Time is just released and can be purchased from all major online and other bookshops including The Poet's Letter Bookshop.

Poetica Rainbow Ryder

Poetica Rainbow Ryder is Munayem Mayenin’s fourth poetry collection that aspires to firmly pronounce his poetic voice, character, language and style while being deeply rooted in contemporary life and its “mini infinite” marathon of tragedy, bloodshed and ruinous reality.

In this collection Mayenin reminds us of a time and geography

“where humanity is
Nothing
It resembles
The apron of a butcher”

Yet his resounding prayer that is felt in every heart across this Blue Planet affirms our hope that he paints with colours of his words:

“I leave you this prayer
I leave you this prayer
Sing it till you fall asleep
And dream of love and wake up in love
Sing it till you wake up
And speak of love and fall asleep in love
And dream of love and wake up in love”

This collection finds a firm address for Mayenin where readers are invited to:

“Find me someday
Or send me a post card
Ever so live
Ever so sparkling
Telling me
How happy you are
And how songs
Open the doors
When you step outside
And colours
Shut your doors
When you walk inside”

Mayenin writes all genres of creative writings. His collections: The Son of Eternity, The Geography of Time, Command the Moon. Mayenin co-edited Slivers: An Anthology of South Asian Poetry in Britain: 1997

Other works include: Dehumanisation of Humanity (four volumes) first volume to be published soon, Psychology of Zooman (Psychology to be published) The Theory of The Universe (to be published)

He is married and a father of three young children and lives and writes in London.

I Follow You

I follow you
Follow you wherever you go
But trust me
I do not stalk you
For I am you-bound
For your beauty that you carry around you
Keep me spell bound

I follow you wonderstruck
The way the moon follows the earth
I cannot but follow you
Since you are so beautiful
Whatever you put on to dress

You dazzle me in your Kashmiri dress
When you stand at the valley of snow and flora
You look like red in fire
You make the valley sing
I follow you

I follow you when you dance
Wearing Kurdish dress
With sparkling diamonds embroidered in your body
The music makes you float in the air
You command the sense of thrill
Around the room where people sit

I follow you when you wear African dress
Suddenly the rainbow decides to come down to earth
And wrap your body so that you feel light
You walk in rhythm in the high street
Africa goes shopping with you
I follow you wonderstruck

I follow you when you go picking up flowers
In the snowy mountain valley of Canada
Your warm clothes shine as summer's pools
I follow your white bare hands and the red rose it holds
How can I not follow you around?

I follow you when you stand beneath the olive tree
In the dusk where dust welcome the scarlet evening
And your eyes dream of dreams
Of future that might soon come to kiss you alive
I follow you into the night where you sing
You sing your songs of joys and silky dreams

I follow you in Egypt
I follow yours steps around the historic place
And see how wonder paints your eyes
And how you look so part of the time and space
Yet you are the one that has no comparison

I follow you in colours painted sarees
In Asian weddings
When your youthful eyes sparkle like young does
And your churees play tunes of light but sincere joy
I follow you

I follow you in the Roma Village
Where you entertain your colours
Where you paint your passion of freedom
Out onto the sky
The sky that reflects your mind

I follow you in the Indian valley of whisper and humanity
I see feathers and colours becoming brothers and sisters
I name myself falling feather with a song
I follow you
Wherever you go
I follow you wonderstruck

I follow you in Florence and Rome
In evening when young blood feels passion
And sit beside the summer vine full of green bursting
Your lips red with red wine summer
I follow you wonderstruck

I follow you in Benin
Wearing sunshine's dress in weary summer
Yet shining as though you are the one
With dreams to spare
I follow you

I follow you
When you speak French
And your tongue becomes juicy vine's intoxicated harvest
And Paris goes mad and drunk
And you sing your heart out

I follow you by the Volga
With your dreams walking with your shadow
Your steps create a symphony
I follow your rosy cheeks
And the wonder bound passion you held in your heart

I follow you across the globe
In Vienna and Frankfurt
I follow you in Durban and Delhi
I follow you in Shanghai and Cairo
I follow you in every roses and rivers
I follow you in every mood and melody
I follow you wonderstruck

The Son of Eternity

Good news for the readers! The Son of Eternity, Munayem Mayenin's second collection of poetry, published by Publish America April 2004.

Neverbridge Stone Roses

Neverbridge Stone Roses is Munayem Mayenin's Sixth collection and still in need of a publisher. Hopefully soon it will have luck landing on it if it could be a summer lake. In the meanwhile a piece from this collection:

I Give You

I give you a rainbow ribbon
To tie your sun kissed hair
Silky soft wind blown warm
In spring and in summer

I give you warmth that I hold for you in my breath
Treasured by my heart for the winter
And the festival of colours that consumes me
Watered by my dreams for autumn

I give you magic out of my soul to keep
Between your touchstone thumb and finger
That hold your pen and knit poetic landscapes
So that colours and music infuse life before your eyes

I give you winds of springs and sounds of silence
Rhythmic speed beating as ecstasy in entwined bodies
Heavens go dancing joys that lay bare before eyes
Sensations wrapped in sweat and beats and thrills

I give you a place where lights dance in darkness
Music puts out scarlet portraits in a cosmic theatre
This is where eternal springs up as dew wet spring grass
Life goes fluttering by with the wind and the butterflies

I giver you rain and tropical downpours of fluid warmth
That give you magic to grow a garden in the desert
Nurture the green in the olive tree in the scarlet dusk
And tea cup full of Arabic scents and stories in aromas

I give you starry nights and their melodies and dreams
A voyage to the cosmic space with white and purple
In your mind there blossom yellow roses as you dream
There on your scarlet cheek a map of kisses painted

I give you a snowy field in winter to play with snowballs
On the tongues they touch sensuality's heat in melting pose
You fall in white while smile sparkles eternal diamond's envy
Your face brightens in rosy cheeks that touch mine in magical bliss.

Most of all I give you something all together unusual
I give you a bleeding heart watering wounded dreams
To keep near your you-scented pillows while you paint your songs
I give you a bruised butterfly in need of your tender care

(Fourth Collection to be published: Neverbridge Stone Roses)

Poetry of Ruins and Rains

Poetry of Ruins and Rains is the fifth collection and will have to find a publisher who is interested in it so much so that he/she would publish it! In the meantime do read this one from the collection:

Prague Spring

After the velvet revolution's seeds germinating
And spring swaying the happy branches of Prague trees
I do not have the music of two thousand words but two
I give you back the Prague Spring an eternal oasis of liberty humane

After the armoured columns and tanks and footsteps
Of confused soldiers wearing horribly unsuitable uniforms
Speaking of tongues a mixer of Russian led cacophony
What could I give you in these tiny minutes in the cup of Prague Spring
The eternal declaration against simply bread and butter
You this evening hold these eternal minutes in the cup of Prague Spring
Let us sing that song of melody and dreams of more than bread and meat

After the curtain down and the probability of rebirth has gone broke
After the bloodshed and hatred transformed into repressions of roses
After the forced equality in deathlike bleakness of quiet horror
After all the murders and imposition of red justice gone to the loo
What can I give you in these tiny eternal minutes but Prague Spring?

I give you an olive tree with green leaves Mozart sing eternal dreams
The dreams of liberty as easy as breathing the air and poetry musing
I hereby give you not two thousand but only two words Prague Spring
I give you a few tiny eternal minutes of nectar to put into the urn of Prague Spring
I give you the dream of keeping the spring eternally bloomed
For us the humanion to get up and sing Beethoven's Moonlight Symphony

I give you the dream I give you the magic I give you life in your beating hearts
I hereby give you a few tiny eternal minutes to water the eternal Prague Spring
Keep it bloomed keep it loved keep it alive and spread it
Keep it in your pockets in your homes and houses and flats and gardens
Keep it in your cafes and campuses and media and archives and lands and waters
Keep it in your eyes and breathes and body scents and in your kisses
Keep it and give it and spread it and sing it and draw it and paint it and play it
Eat it and drink it and saw it and plant it and water it and love it
I give you Prague Spring to hold so that roses can be flowers and women lovers
I give you a few roses of these few tiny eternal minutes take them home
And water them with the dew of your dreams and sing the colours of your hearts

(Sixth collection to be published: Poetry of Rains and Ruins)

POETICS

Poetics should have been part of Dehumanisation of Humanity. However, it stands alone on its own merits. It is big poem in parts. It is a collection with its own characteristics and hence I wanted Poetics to be on its own.

Dedicated to the memory of my beloved mother Syeda Nurunnessa Ali. May God bless her soul!

POETRIDUCTION

POWER

PRIDE

OWNING

WINNING

OWING AND WINNING

POETRIDUCTION

You believe in owning and winning
To own you need power
To win you need pride
You believe in owning and winning
But to achieve that you require power
And to acquire that what do you need?

Money is one
Or sex could be the other
Or get elected
Or overthrow the elected ones
To own you need power

If you have power
You not only own
But show the power of owning
You buy people and things alike
You sell people and things alike
You show anger and cruelty
And disregard and dishonour
Vulgarity and aggression follows
And violence and pride and so on

If you own you have power
So have you pride
So you feel
Feel the feeling
Think the thought
Know the knowledge
Use the way
Say the thing
Do the act
And thus you are the man
Or the woman

You go for it and show
Show your beast and its inner essence
Equating to supremocious vulgarium
Arrogance and anger and disregard
And failing calls for violence
For you believe in power
And power needs to be shown
Yet you cannot own enough
And you cannot win enough
Hence the beast within you keeps roaring
In anger in evil in vulgarity
In violence in hatred in unrest

You talk love but never do
To anything or anybody
You talk respect but never show
To anything or anybody
You love your power and pride
You respect your power and pride

Or you do things for your egotistic pleasures
That bother only one thing itself
Yet you look for happiness
But cannot see it-find it-feel it-touch it
Your happiness is self pity and blindness
And you cannot feel rest and cannot feel happy
For there’s not enough power for you
And thus you cannot own the infinite
And thus you cannot win the infinite
But your hunger for owning
And your hunger for winning
Are infinite and so is your
U-n-h-a-p-p-i-n-e-s-s

You of course do not see it
Because once you get power
You get dazzled and blind
You have a wife
You tell her you love her
But you know you treat her as though you own her
As though she is an ornamental particle
Sounding almost like dust
And you don’t care how she feels
And you dominate her

Because you have to prove to yourself
One thing all the time
That you have power
And thus you with hundreds more women particles
For that shows you command power
And hence you command anything under the sun

Same goes to you the woman
Power has outlets
Money is one
Or sex is the other
Getting hundreds of men at your wish
The men particles are fun for you
As this shows you have got the vital virtue
The power itself between your palms
So that you could dominate too
So sexing up your life is not
Not at all about happiness
It is about power and pride
It is about owning and winning
And to do this
You get vulgar
And naked
And you get sold
Just like the power hungry men

Power and pride
Owning and winning
The death squad of love and happiness
It kills your inner human being
It kills your all human faculties
Yet you do not accept it
For the system that you built
Trained you to be a human beast
That is damn good at playing
Playing with the currency of lunacy
For power and pride
For owning and winning
And thus we get
War
Hunger
Famines
Hatred
Unemployment
Homelessness
Crimes
Murders
Madness
And
Fanaticism
And
Fighting
And divorces
And tragedies
In their millions
And we get all sorts and shapes
Of evils and states
Depression oppression suppression
Frustration aggression hallucination and so on

You can get rid of it
Only if you have infinite power
That will help you owning the infinite
And winning the infinite
But you know you cannot get it
You know it is water in the lunar sands
Hence you all power hungry guys
You will never be happy
But I have the happiness you seek
In all your breaths all your life
Have a look at it and think
Have a think
A deep and long and wide and high and broad thinking
You can not own the infinite
Cannot win the infinite
But you could belong to it
So you could belong to it
To the universe and it’s multiple
The planets and stars and galaxies
And the spaces and lights and darkness
And this planet earth

The beautiful tiny globe
A microscopic dot in the universe
And its oceans and seas and rivers
Its skies and forests and mountains
Its countries and nations
And the languages and their cultures
Histories and sciences
Its bodies of knowledge
And philosophies
Its peoples
And most of all their vibrant dreams
And seagull visions
And only when you feel belonged
You are really free
You are at liberty
Free

Free to liver together
Free to love together
Free to respect together
Free to create together
Free to explore together
Free to expand together
Free to dream together
Free to envision together
Free to be together
And free to form
Form the rainbow
The rainbow expression of God

For you don’t
Don’t have to win or own
Don’t have to have power
Don’t have to fight
Don’t have to hate
Don’t have to violate
Don’t have to dominate
Don’t have to do
Anything at all anymore

Hence you create
A colourful symphony of life
A vibrating human choreograph
A rainbow beauty of people
An explosion of
Exploration
Expansion
Creation
And you begin then

An adventure to expand
Expand the belonging
Love and respect
And happiness
Comes by
Which non longer is your goal
For you are free
For greatness
For perfection
For the universe

Together
A rainbow team of Humanity
A rainbow team of God
You stand on the same ground
You dress equality
You breathe fairness
You live love

You sing happiness
You dance dignity
You drink life
You recite life’s rainbow
You work for meaning
Your goal is perfection

For you need to aspire for perfection
And belong to the great
For you need to earn a meaning
With which you go back
Go back to HIM to say

“These are the fruits of my efforts
For you just to say:
Thank you, my lord
For blessing me with
The tiny brilliance the human life!”
