Prometheus and Orpheus

Prometheus and Orpheus Munayem Mayenin’s First Sonnets Collection (12th poetry collection and 13th published book). In 136 pages this collection delves into the cruelest, coldest, loneliest, hardest, most vulnerable and impossible depth of life and torches out diamonds of lights out of sheer darkness, raging despairs and overwhelming despondency: these are jewels of a different kind and magnitude that can only be achieved when poetry and the poet cease to exist separately. Teach Me to Knit You

You said to the air once that you would weave
My absence into presence and may be you
Can knit me out of memories into presence
I would be before your loving gaze where lights

Speak of love that softens a rock to offer a
Home to alien green moss where they print
What velvet wonder of a green that shines
May be you know how much power you hold

Into your magic, yet, here I am lost in this
Light of yours only a memory that is and I
Wonder how I could work you up into present

A tangible and touchable present where touch
Can reach you and achieve a response, a smile
And a question in words? Teach me to knit you.

Since the Dawn of Time

Lights lifting up on your eyes that speak
To mine expand onto your scarlet cheeks
You radiate like a rhododendron in the sun
That shines on me while I hold your hands

You speak softly as though shredding of petals
Yet your eyes focus on my deep and your lips
Move like rain wet twin bud of afire red roses
I look up at you, mesmerised, drink your soul.

Short a time catches us in the dim lights soft
You speak and I too share holding your palms
We stay in touch of each other's reach: close

Comfortable in the essence in each other’s space
I inhale your fragrance and feel as though we
Have been talking since the dawn of time: talking

On Bare River Seeking

I seek and a subtle response is what
Offers me a flow of something that I
Could not handle: joys remit is limitless
Yet there comes the low tide: bare river

Although there still shines the silt in
Happy sunlights that transform the surface
Of the glowing mud where a bird seeks
With deep confidence that its breast could

Hard-handle: something, anything to gather
For life, her compounding connections to it
I am spell bound in the bounty of, even this,

Bare river, beyond low tide, riding on lights’
Loving care and the fairs of human affairs
Carry on gathering notes and boats: seeking.

Calling

You speak serene soft and
Powerfully you touch with
A sure subtle gentle hold.
You reach right at all times;

Making me flow towards you.
As you glow in a pearl like peace,
I flow and be in delight of dream
Where you spell your name as call

Of mine. You call me like the night
That calls the oceans on high tide
Rise submerged in the dark flight.

Your calling reaches my shore and
Wet in silver foam I radiate the
Waves’ works and call you back.

Tell Me About the Spectrum

‘’Think of the spans between woman and man
When she desires and avoids him.’’ Rilke

You ladies, in whose arms lights play
Youthful pink and scarlet and hue out
A glow that calls eternity’s attention;
Tell me, about the spectrum of your play!

When your breath feels bewitched by
A name, and your eyes reflect a glow
Of an unreal lake where swims the
Royal swan and you speak in vibrations:

How far you run towards and away from?
Please, tell me, how far you play between
Desiring and accepting the light of loss?

When you are a magnet and do magnetise;
Why do you not strive towards and open
The proximity’s flower in touch-in tune?

A Made Up Woman

I see you a wholesome togetherness
That speaks in fulsome completeness
Where speech is no longer necessary:
You, like the way sky dips into water,

Negating the space, walk past. Ease
Narrates your silence-phosphorescence.
Evaporating the space you reach peace
That’s like February’s laurel-sun-lights.

Your hair glows, flowing outward: rhythm,
Floral, fragrant they are air’s aerogramme:
Your smiles beat the dictionary of pearls.

Your lush lips fail a heart, aqua-crystal-eyes
Read and speak. Your mind is where care
And beauty blend in warmth: open, whole.
