Biography

Munayem Mayenin is an English Author, Poet, Novelist, Playwright, Screenplay Writer, Song Writer, Children’s Writer, Thinker, Editor, Festival and Events Director who writes all genres of creative writings including Philosophical and Sociological Studies. In short: Mayenin is an Imagination Worker, writing and living away the wonders of life; areally in words, ideas and thoughts he lives and writes the areal business of the magic, music and magnanimity of life and living. 

Munayem Mayenin is Publisher of Poets' Letter, Poets' Letter Fiction Magazine, Poets' Letter Youth Lit Magazine and Poets' Letter Pholosophia Magazine and Imsonium Books.

Mayenin's aesthetics is arealism, philosophy humanics and breath of his identity comes from belonging to the humanion of humanity that flowers in an overwhelming awe of a bloom on the surface of the Mother Earth; at home in the wondrous infinite Universe he sings the joys and wonders of life.  

Munayem Mayenin is the Founder and Festival Director of London Poetry Festival, Editor of Poets' Letter Magazine, Leadeditor of Poets' Letter Fiction Magazine, Poets' Letter Youth Lit Magazine and Poets' Letter Pholosophia Magazine, Poet in Residence at Southwark Libraries (2005-2009), father of three children and author of 15 published books of poetry, sonnet, prozzitry, poetic romantic fiction, philosophy and novel.

Mayenin edited 'The Poets’ Letter Poetry Anthology of New Voices' (London, 2005). He co-edited 'Slivers: An Anthology of South Asian Poetry in Britain', which was published in London in 1997.

Mayenin wrote for many publications in the UK, America and internationally in the 90s, edited many publications and has been involved closely with the publishing and media industry. Mayenin has made appearances through interviews in the following: The Guardian, The Observer, The Writer’s News, The New Age, The Poetry Life and Times, The BBC Radio 4, BBC Asian Network, BBC World Service, LBC Radio, British Satellite News, Nikki Bedi Show, Channel S Television and more.

Mayenin studied Bangla Language and Literature in addition to English, French, Greek, Persian, Sanskrit, German, Spanish and Russian Literature as well as Linguistics, Phonetics and Phonology as part of his B.A (Honours) degree under University of Chittagong and read MA in the same areas of studies but left Bangladesh before sitting the exams.

He studied science (Mathematics, Physics, Botany, Zoology and Chemistry) up to college intending to be a physician, which later modified into becoming a Chemist or a Physicist until the university opened up the doors of literature and arts for him!  In addition to his subjects he read great classical and modern European, African and Latin American literature and poetry including, of course, English, French and German literature as well as Philosophy, Psychology and Islamic History while Eastern and Western Philosophy provided the food of his soul and mind.

He studied Journalism at National Council for the Training of Journalists, City University and London School of Journalism in the nineties in addition to his studies in Youth and Informal Education (Canterbury and Christ Church University College), Special Educational Needs (Brunel University) and Public Sector Management (Trnas-Atlantic College).

He worked as a civil servant serving education, adult education and informal education, mother tongue and supplementary education, and social services. He spent several years involved in teaching Bangla language and literature at School of Oriental and African Studies-SOAS (University of London), University of Westminster and Adult Education Services of Tower Hamlets and Newham (teaching Bangla and Sylheti).

Mayenin worked many years as an Examiner for Sylheti and Bangla Languages for The Institute of Linguists and has spent many years involved in community initiatives and festivals in London.

Mayenin’s poetry has so far been translated and published in Spanish, Mongolian and Arabic.

Mayenin attended and read at The First Prague International Poetry Festival 2004 and attended and presented a Philosophy Paper (On Dehumanisation of Humanity) at the 12th Philosophy Born of Struggle Conference (October 2005) at The New School University, New York.

Mayenin is father of three children and lives and writes in London.

Mayenin loves and lives poetry which is the voice of his soul. As an author Mayenin's consciousness is deeply rooted in the philosophical conviction that he is morally obliged to continue to promote, foster and discharge his social and moral responsibilities towards the humanion he feels so deeply a part of. He believes himself to be a citizen of the mother universe and his works call humanity to a universal humanion of humankind in the cosmosian theatre of life in this beautiful infinite universe. He opposes any other forms of identities in favour of the Humanion of humankind on this Blue Planet.

Mayenin lives and works (and loves) in Southwark in the Southbank where The London Poetry Festival takes place at the beautiful Waterloo St John’s Church every year in August. The River Thames (and the River Bank) is the love of his life. Mayenin served as Project Co-Ordinator of a Southwark-wide Youth Project at the Youth and Connexions Service of London Borough of Southwark for a few years.

OO Blackheath, Greenwich

Blackheath, Greenwich was Mayenin’s home for many years (and still she is the spiritual home for him) where he served the Education Service of London Borough of Greenwich for a period of time.

OO Tower Hamlets

Mayenin lived in Stepney Green area in Tower Hamlets for a couple of years and worked there for almost over a decade in many voluntary, community, arts and youth organizations and festivals including The Bangladesh Mela/Festival and East End Festival and for the Education, Adult Education, Mother Tongue and Supplementary Education and Social Services Departments of London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

Mayenin worked as Tutor in Charge at a Mother Tongue and Supplementary Education Centre in Camden.

OO Covent Garden

Mayenin has run Poets’ Letter Poetry and Live Music Performance Series for a few years at the Poetry Café, Betterton Street, in Covent Garden where the First ever London Poetry Festival took place.

OO Finsbury Park, Hackney Downs, Hackney

Mayenin lived in Finsbury Park and Hackney Downs in Hackney many years in the nineties where he spent his time developing and writing the ideas of his philosophical writing that later formed the four volumes of works: Dehumanisation of Humanity.

OO Forest Gate, Stratford, Newham

Mayenin lived, many years, in Forest Gate, Newham (where he briefly served Newham Adult Education and Translation and Interpretation Service) as well as in Stratford area.

Mayenin was involved with Hounslow Multicultural Arts Agency, being part of the Board of Editors that oversaw the publication of Slivers: An Anthology of South Asian Poetry in Britain

Aparte de las asignaturas cursadas, leyó bastante literatura y poesía clásica, europea moderna, africana y latinoamericana, además de, por supuesto, literatura inglesa, francesa y alemana, al tiempo que la filosofía oriental y occidental iban proporcionándole el sustento del alma y la mente.

Estudió periodismo en el Nacional Council for the Training of Journalists, en la ciudad universitaria y la escuela de periodismo de Londres, así como educación juvenil e informal (universidad de Canterbury y Christ Church), educación especial (universidad de Brunel) y gestión pública (universidad Transátlantica).

Ha trabajado como funcionario en educación informal (relacionada con los jóvenes) y de adultos, lengua nativa, educación complementaria y servicios sociales.

Camino de noche sobre el puente triste de Southwark
Bajo farolas que a tocarme se inclinan
Mi mente es una con el aire libre donde juguetea el espacio
Y dejo a las nocturnas luces dividir mi sombra en tres

Moviéndose mientras camino y juega el viento húmedo
Con las olas y el agua excesiva ahí abajo
Sobre la que luces urbanas casi irreales crean
Peces plateados de luz pirueteando rítmicos y leves

Mientras aspiro el aire como si la vida se reflejara
En esta nada absoluta y salvaje que tan sólo

I walk on soulful Southwark Bridge at night
Under the street lamps that lower themselves to touch me
My mind equates the free air where it plays the space
And I let the night lights divide my shadow into three


That move as I walk while the wet wind plays
With the waves and water bellow appearing fulsome
On which the city night lights create almost unreal
Silver fishes of lights playing rhythmic light lounge

While I inhale the air as though life has mirrored itself
Into this wild absoluted nothingness that can only
Be reached in a state of wonder wounded melancholy
And I think of my children and family waiting ahead

Respondiendo a un solo impulso certero descendí
Del autobús una parada antes de mi destino

Y comencé a pasear como si tuviera algo
Sereno y floreciente que contemplar con embeleso

English Original: October Avenue of Lights

On a sudden response to a surely sole urge I
Got off the bus one step before my destination

And began walking as if ahead I had something
Serene and thriving waiting to be witnessed spellbound

I stepped onto the Bridge-an October avenue of lights
Letting the water blown wet wind paint invisible works

On the canvas of my face, blowing my hair with
A live thriving coolness that brings something magical

Out of oneself and I became a welcome passing through
Visitor who would keep the melodies of these memories

Treasured and water these as though they were diamond
Geraniums waiting to propagate into spectacles of silence

As I walked on the bridge I looked at the fulsome-young
Trembling river where wind played out a living-dancing

Three dimensional canvas on the surface of water
And allowed an array of communal artists to play out

An art work of the day: the shadows of the buildings
The sky splattered with fluffy white light clouds

The sea gulls, the bridges and the ever chasing waves
Rippling out and the boats and ships all joined in.

Having taken all that into my areal being I carried on
Walking into the belly of the city where I work

Yet I carried something in my essence that had a fragrance
An areal touch of something that felt like almost a living thing

Inside that kept beating and singing a Serengeti sublime
And here it remains open to be taken for a ride at your leisure
